By considering the ways language and matter created the conditions for the landscape that we maintain as the American West, this work shapes a network of connections between industrial materials and craft processes to consider how the desert terrain has become a manufactured space. Coming from a year-long, primarily field-based, investigation into the West, the work complicates the idea of land remaining, land that has not been formed and determined through production and waste, either imagined or material—what, if anything, is not built from waste.
